Gratitude, Books, and Bees

I had a huge surprise a week or so ago. I learned that both of my books, to be released by The Wild Rose Press in May 2013, would be available as e-books, for Kindle only. They’re in the KDP Select program which means that Amazon has a three month exclusive. Starting in January!

Today my pages went live at only an hour apart. My head is spinning!!!!  And my books are now out there, circulating, or cowering in the wings, whatever the case may be. : )

When I first learned the news about my books going to Amazon, I was panic stricken. I was NOT READY! In fact I’d set up some promotional events for May and thought I had three months to work on more. Yikes! Anyway, I sat down and talked with a couple of wise people and understood that this was indeed a good thing. I mean how does one go about promotion and marketing when they are a complete unknown? To have Amazon getting your back, promoting from within, creating all kinds of opportunities that have proven successful to them…well, what isn’t to like? I expressed my gratitude and immediately got to work.

In my typical controlling businesslike way, I delved into the things I needed to learn, the promotion I needed to bump up, and the best possible way to market my e-books. After a weekend of no sleep and dashing hither and yon (I love that phrase) and researching the net until the wee small hours, I finally collapsed. It hit me that if I did everything I thought that I should do I would spread myself too thin, and nothing would be effective.

I reminded myself of how far I’ve come in one year. I gave thanks for my journey and reached for my little serenity book. This is what I read:

Let us not therefore go hurrying about and collecting honey, bee-like, buzzing here and there impatiently from a knowledge of what is to be arrived at. But let us open out leaves like a flower…budding patiently…and taking hints from every noble insect that favours us with a visit. ~John Keats~

So, umm…bring on the bees!

And should you wish to purchase a book, thank you, and here are the direct links:

Unlock the Truth:

The Blue Dolphin:

They are both part of my Desert Heat series set in a fictional town in Southern California’s Coachella Valley. Unlock the Truth is the first book, The Blue Dolphin is the second, Desert Exposure (my GH finalist book) will be the third. They’re stand-alone books and can be read out of order. If you like romantic suspense and feel like making a purchase, thank you, if you don’t that’s fine too. I’m just happy that you like to swing by my blog and say hello. Oh, and I have a couple of fun interviews and reviews coming up so I’ll be blogging on both Monday and Friday for a while. Humphrey is so excited because he will be doing one review. : )

Have a wonderful weekend!

  2. I’m so excited for you! This is a great day. I’m going to go now and see if I can figure out how to tweet your links-my, that sounds a bit dirty. I’m happy to lend you all thirty or so of my followers!

Oh. Megan, thanks for coming by. Fabulous! I am an awful tweeter. Had been promising myself I’d get over there…and then this surprise was sprung. Soon. Soon. So much to learn in this biz. But I’m not complaining. : )

  3. Skye says:

Oh congratulations! This is so wonderful for you! I’m sure they’ll do great!

  4. Sam Beck says:

Big, HUGE congratulations on your double-debut! I had the honor of reading an advance copy of “Unlock the Truth,” and I think you should prepare for a slew of positive reviews. Promo always helps, because there are a lot of books out there vying for attention, but there’s no better promotion than a great story told well!

Awww…Sam, you are the best. I love your review. Thank you so much for doing that. And yes, it’s hard to know what to do to stand out from the crowd. I still believe it’s word of mouth that sells a book. I was on Kindleboards today discussing this with a guy who is multi published and still struggling. It’s not easy. : )

  6. shucks – I’ll have to wait for payday. 7 long days away. Well, I will get them as soon as I can. Can’t wait!!!! But I have to, darn it.

Congratulations. Being a published writer looks good on you!!!

Judy, I’m going to try and track you down. I have a PDF if you’d like it. You’d have to read on your computer, unless you know how to get it to your Kindle. : )

  7. Thea says:

Well, I’m buying. Congratulations! It’s been so much fun to watch the validation of your journey.

  8. Janie Emaus says:

Congratulations! I liked them both and will be buying them later this evening.

Oh, thanks for that, Janie. I appreciate your support. You’re a doll!
