Rubbing Elbows

This will be my first year of being able to sign my books at the Readers for Life, Romance Writers of America Literacy Autographing event. Am I little bit excited? A little bit nervous? Sure.

I’m signing both Unlock the Truth  UnLocktheTruth_w7273_100

and The Blue DolphinTheBlueDolphin_w7562_100

I’ll be swimming in the big pool with all the big kids. I reminded myself not to dive in and do a big ol’ belly flop, but to kind of slide into the water with ease…like when nobody was looking. I’d just started to think everything would be fine when they announced we’ll be seated in alphabetical order. I looked up the seating arrangements. I’m between Heather Graham (who has published about 150 novels) and Jane Graves (about eighteen novels and has had numerous RITA Award nominations.)

Panic began to take over my previous calm mood. It hit me a day or so later, that this is good. This is excellent. I’ll be rubbing elbows with the famous! I’m an unknown, and obviously new to this being published game. There will be few visitors to my spot. However, there should be tons of fans for the ladies seated to my right and left. I can easily chat to their overflow traffic. ; )

So here are the details:

When: July 17th, 2013 at 5:30 pm-7.30 pm.

Where: Atlanta Marriott Marquis Hotel, Atrium Ballroom A-C.

The event is open to the general public and draws 450 romance authors who sign books for fans, and all proceeds from the event benefit ProLiteracy Worldwide, Literacy Action, Inc., and Literacy Volunteers of Atlanta. New this year will be a silent auction for baskets of donated items to further raise funds for literacy programs.

If you’ll be in the Atlanta region, I’d love it if you dropped by to say hello.

You’ll be brilliant and wonderful, Roben. Don’t worry about a thing! Wish I could be there to see you signing your books, but I’ll be there in spirit, baby!

  2. Robena Grant says:

Aw, thanks, Nan. One of these years we are going to meet, somewhere, somehow. : )

  3. What a great opportunity for you! I know you will shine. Wish I could be there.

    • Robena Grant says:

Wish you could be there too, Judy. One of these years we’ll have to meet up somewhere, you me, Nan, the Betties and Cherries and Refabbers. Oh my, that would be a party! : )

  4. Janie Emaus says:

You’ll be fine. Wish I could be there!

  5. Oh, I can’t wait to see you there! So exciting, Roben! And your gorgeous and wonderful personality will shine through and all those readers visiting the tables to your left and right will most definitely want to stop by yours too! Have a blast!

  6. Robena Grant says:

Hi, Robin! Are you packed yet?
Looking forward to catching up with my LARA peeps! : )

  7. You’ll have a ball, and definitely rub their elbows to get some of that good sales juju.

Have some little candies to pass out to the lines of fans as they visit the nearby authors, and I know you’re great at chatting things up, so have a ball. Wish I could be there to support our LARA authors.

    • Robena Grant says:

Thanks, Lynne. I will. : ) Did you know it was Heather Graham’s novel Drop Dead Gorgeous that first got me toying with writing suspense? Of course my stories are not as dark as hers.
Candies! Thanks for the reminder. Must put them on the shopping list!

  8. Sam Beck says:

How AWESOME to score Heather Graham & Jane Graves as your “bait”!!! I will find your table, line up several of those cute little bottles of champagne, and let everyone know exactly where the par-tay is!

    • Robena Grant says:

Ha ha. Very funny Sam. Looking forward to finding some time to chat. You’d think being in the same chapter we’d have all the time in the world but it seems we’re always in a hurry. I talk more to my LARA peeps at conferences than at meetings. : )

  9. I wish I could be there! How exciting. I volunteered at the signing in New York and all the authors-no matter how famous-were truly gracious and welcoming. You fit the bill!

    • Robena Grant says:

Yes, there are some amazing ladies in RWA. Heather Graham was such a delight. I only stayed half an hour as I wasn’t feeling well. I’m okay today, just staying in my room.

  10. JL Hammer says:

Wow! How amazing to be next to Heather Graham! With your exciting novels, you deserve to be there. Have fun!

    • Robena Grant says:

J.L. Heather is a charming, and a really lovely person to converse with. Her hubs was with her and I got to meet him. Then I left early. There’s always next year!

  11. Julie says:

How exciting!!! I would LOVE to visit Georgia. (We have friends there!)

    • Robena Grant says:

We had tremendous electrical storms and hail in the area last night. Lots of thunder and TV announcements to stay off the road. I was glad to be inside the hotel.

  12. Kelly says:

So glad you’re feeling better, Robena.
