New Release: Lie Catchers

I love finding new to me authors, and it’s such a pleasure to introduce Rolynn Anderson to you. Anderson’s novel, Lie Catchers, is one of suspense, mystery, and intrigue, and it caused me to stay up reading until the wee small hours. I don’t know about you, but for me the non-put-down-able-books are true treasures.

Several things grabbed me about this story. I liked the author’s non-linear style. She used journalistic articles to showcase an older crime and parallel a current crime in the same small town. I also admired the authenticity the author brought to the page. The third aspect was that of the main character and her incredible talent (no spoilers here, but I had recently watched a television show on this very topic.)

Now you’ll have to read the book to find out. ; )

Being of Scandinavian background, an avid boater, and an Alaskan adventurer, Anderson did an excellent job of pulling me into her story. There was just enough background to make the story, and that small town, leap to life. The quirkiness of the characters (all lovely flawed characters) had me rooting for some, and wanting justice done.

Definitely a 5* read!

And now I want to visit Alaska!

Here’s the blurb on Lie Catchers:

Two unsolved murders will tear apart an Alaska fishing town unless a writer and a government agent reveal their secret obsessions.

Treasury agent Parker Browne is working undercover in Petersburg, Alaska to investigate a money scam and a murder. His prime suspect, Liv Hanson, is a freelance writer struggling to save her family’s business. Free spirited, full of life, and with a talent for catching liars, she fascinates Parker.

Trying to prove she’s a legitimate writer who cares about Petersburg’s issues, Liv pens a series of newspaper articles about an old, unsolved murder. When her cold case ties in with Parker’s investigation, bullets start to fly.

Parker understands money trails, and Liv knows the town residents. But he gave up on love two years ago, and she trusts no one, especially with her carefully guarded secret. If they mesh their skills to find the killers, will they survive the fallout?

  1. Robena, words could not express how much your review and your generous praise, above, mean to me. I feel ‘launched!’ Your compliments become the starter’s gun, beginning my race to push LIE CATCHERS. With every book, I take a new tack, and this approach in LIE CATCHERS was a risk, the 1932 murder juxtaposed with a recent murder. I’m so relieved it worked for the reader! Seriously this is one ‘happy dance’ moment. Life-changing! Thank you so much!

  2. Sounds interesting, especially with the Alaska setting! I’ll definitely add this to my TBR list for 2014…

  3. Now you’ve made me want to read this book, too! I have had the pleasure of meeting Rolynn (when she introduces herself she says: Rolynn like roll in roll out) at the Desert Dreams conference a few years back. I’ve had serious cover envy for her first series of books, and am also really impressed with this cover, too.

Wishing you much success with this awesome-sounding book!

    Hi Robena!

Lie Catchers sounds like an intriguing story, and I’m always up for a non-linear style. Alaska is a great setting…I’ve always wanted to visit, too!

Rolynn, congrats on the new release 🙂

  5. robena grant says:

Thanks for dropping by, Gina. Hey, maybe we should do a writer retreat in Alaska. Brrrrr. : )

  6. Sam Beck says:

Hi Robena, thanks for staying up late reading, so you could bring us another great book spotlight! Rolynn’s “Lie Catchers” sounds unique and intriguing…plus a great way to visit Alaska without leaving the warmth of sunny So.Cal. 😉

    • The thing about Alaska is the moisture keeps your skin smoother, I think (Seattle helped me with that, too). The scenery…mountains and glaciers in Alaska…you don’t even think about the rain with those views. Floating icebergs add to the joy 🙂 Happy New Year! Rolynn

  7. robena grant says:

Exactly, Sam. She has lots of intriguing twists and turns in this story. I had fun trying to figure it all out, so no chore in staying up late. ; )

    • I LOVE a book that makes me stay up late into the night. That’s a thrilling comment about Lie Catchers, Robena. Thank you! Hope you made up for the loss of sleep by now 🙂

  8. Robena, don’t forget to send your address to me. I’ve promised a Rite in the Rain mini-notebook (like the one found in Ev’s pocket) to anyone who enjoyed my book enough to write a review. It’s a pad of paper that will never be destroyed by moisture. Fishermen, mushers…lots of people carry these waterproof notepads. Later, I’ll tell you all about my partnership with Rite in the Rain. It’s a first for TWRP, I think. Rolynn

Fabulous! I’ll do that Rolynn. Then I’ll be able to write while standing in the pool during the long, hot, desert summer. ; )

It has been a pleasure having you here on the blog. Check back in though, as I’m only a once a week blogger. I often get commenters toward the end of the week.

  9. Angela Adams says:

Sounds like a great read. I’m intrigued with the Alaska setting. Best wishes for 2014!

  10. Wow that really sounds good. Maybe I’ll read it after I read Gone Tropical!
    Happy New Year, Robena!!!
